There is a difference between self-confidence and self-esteem.
Having good self-confidence means that you think you can handle things. You can have different degrees of self-confidence in different areas. For example, you may feel confident in your expertise but have low confidence in other things.
Having a good self-esteem means that you feel deep down that you are good just the way you are; one can feel both self-acceptance and self-respect.
Self-confidence has to do with the outside, and self-esteem with the inside.
It is not entirely unusual for one to have, for example, high self-confidence but low self-esteem. Self-esteem then becomes performance-based, that is, you only feel worth something when you perform well.
